Another “Spare the Air” day in the Bay Area

September 2, 2010 15:33 pm · 21 comments

Tomorrow, Friday, September 3, is a Spare the Air Day in the Bay Area.

Concentrations of ground-level ozone pollution are forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow. Hot temperatures and light winds will combine to produce poor air quality for the Bay Area.

To help prevent smog tomorrow, please:

 - Carpool or vanpool with friends or co-workers

- Take public transportation

- Telecommute — work from home instead of driving to work

- Link necessary trips and postpone errands if possible

To plan your commute online, visit 511.org.

To monitor current air quality conditions, visit www.sparetheair.org.

This AirAlert is provided by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

Thank you for doing your part to Spare the Air!

What no comments ? How about three Scare The Air Days in a row. About time we had some nice warm weather. I was worried we would not get our share of global warming.

I told you all yesterday they aare softening us up to take away our Labor Day barbeques. Just wait and see.

6 Negative Creep September 2, 2010 at 4:26 pm

They’re just building up for another one on Monday. I wouldn’t be surprised if they pull that crap.

7 Breath Easy September 2, 2010 at 4:26 pm

Is it okay if I wash my car on Friday?

8 The Original Anon E. Mouse September 2, 2010 at 4:26 pm

But seriously, my lawn NEEDS to be mowed!! Eh, it’s not like there’s a homeowner’s association around here anyway. Pfft. I knew I should have bought the electric mower ….

Bless Me, Father, for I have sinned. I did have a barbeque last night, but it was SOOO HOT, I didn’t want to turn on the oven and heat up the house!!!

I’m sorry, I love you BAAQC, because I used to live in Clyde and you were always there when I called to complain about the smells coming from Tosco but I CAN’T COOK INSIDE when it’s hot like this, and I can’t afford to go out to dinner for three nights running.

I will await my pentence at the pearly gates.

I’m so so sorry. But I will BBQ tomorrow I can’t keep waiting for the BAAQD to tell me when it is ok to BBQ, drive or clean my A@#. I hope they show up at my front door, let me tell you if they think they are god, wait until I’m done with them.

13 grilled porkchops tonight September 2, 2010 at 5:33 pm

I did not see anything on their web site that says you can’t BBQ- where are you getting that from?

14 anonamom September 2, 2010 at 5:45 pm

Breath Easy: Do not under any conditions let the water go down the storm drain! Do you hear me? We drink that water…..and on and on, and heaven forbid your dirty car water gets on the rats and raccoons down there!

Mr Mayor,

It is useless to post this story here. Every time you do people are so selfish and post ignorant remarks. As an asthma sufferer I can tell you that it is tough enough on any other day but it does affect me a lot more when the weather gets warmer. I am really taken back by the selfishness of others. If I did not have to work I would not go out. Especially when no one even cares. It is sick and sad. I appreciate knowing that once again I can look forward to huffing on my medication while struggling to breathe as people are cruising in their cool air conditioned cars. I will be leaving my car at home to do what i can for others that suffer from the same disease.

:(

What is with all the Spare the Air days? Maybe they should stop declaring these, then maybe I can go to school tomorrow.

17 Drvrdadca September 2, 2010 at 8:15 pm

How come we didn’t have spare the air days 25-30 years ago when you could eat the smog outside? I can remember walking to and from school when the air was much dirtier than now and I didn’t have any problems. And I didn’t hear about those with asthma (and I had friends who were afflicted) complaining that they had difficulty breathing. This is such BS. The air in the Bay Area has never been cleaner.

Why can’t we do away with this damn bureaucracy? It had its time and did its job. Lets save the millions we pour into this agency each year and get out of our money troubles. Their budget alone would keep all of the laid off teachers back in the spring working and then some.

Mr Mayor, there are lots of “useless” stories posted here, but so what, keep doing it it gives us humor to get through the day.

18 Bozo September 2, 2010 at 8:19 pm

I’m barbecuing tomorrow.

19 thighs of glory September 2, 2010 at 8:59 pm

Right. I can just see me taking the bus to go serve papers.

20 Navin R. Johnson September 3, 2010 at 9:25 am

Anon,
We’re not being selfish, we’re just reacting to the obvious attempts by the BAAQM to control more aspcts of our lives.

There are plenty of useless stories here but I don’t think this is one of them. It’s good to know when these days happen because I believe they’re adding more whenever they please.

With every Spare the Air alert, global warming environMENTALIST propaganda grows and our basic simple freedoms to run our A/C or burn a fire.

I am deeply sorry Air Quality Board. I just got my state vehicle registration and paid the DMV $108. dollars to regester my vehicle on top of having to pay $57. to smog test the vehicle, on top of having to pay another $676. for an oxygen sensor repairs and another $10 for the certfic which put me beyond $800. to regester a stock clean vehicle which had over 20 parts per billion Nox. So I fired up my BBQ to cook 2 ears of corn, 3 burgers and 4 bola steaks, F*&% You Air Quility Board and all you supporters. Next time I will buy a desel truck and smoke my BBQ while you can kiss my A@% in shove it up the the goveners Butt. PS, I WILL BBQ AND SMOKE MY Dinner tomorrow and on Monday. You are more than welcome to come by to vioce your opinion to me as you drive behind one of the County Buses. F%#$ You.
