I don’t care if I’m first, it’s the weekend!!! Have a safe weekend everyone and let the small petty things go and focus on what really matters. Life is too short to waste your time on the idiots in the world……

So does anyone know when the new Pleasant Hill In-N-Out will opening (on Contra Costa @ Chilpancingo)?

I’M HUNGRY!!!!

Will also be nice to see McDonald’s across the street — the Empire of McEvil — lose business!!!

8 Enjoying The Journey August 27, 2010 at 3:13 PM

I hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend. Enjoy the Journey!

Does anyone remember what restaurant used to be at the corner of Treat and Oak Grove, where the Baskin and Robins currently is? This was probably during the early 80′s, so my memory is a little fuzzy…

12 anonymous August 27, 2010 at 3:30 PM

Question – What is the big deal about In N Out Burger?
I dont get it. I have had their burgers and they are just not that great. I go to San Ramon quite a bit and I see the lines and I just shake my head. What is so great about In N out burger?

13 Alex August 27, 2010 at 3:31 PM

Hey anyone see all the cops around todos santos mid day last Sunday?

14 Paula Trotter August 27, 2010 at 3:39 PM

The Bluestar Moms want everyone to know we are doing our best to stop EA Sports from releasing the new Medal of Honor video game. It allows gamers to plays as the Taliban to kill US Troops. This is not just a pretend video game, this game is based on our current war. With the loss of our sons and daughter it is wrong to have a video game company profit while this war continues to cost so many families such a high price.

Park Regency rapist plead not guilty today.

16 Leigha August 27, 2010 at 3:54 PM

Give me a good recipe using ground beef. (Preferably not chili, meatloaf, hamburgers or pasta)

17 Danny August 27, 2010 at 4:01 PM

From my experience with In-N-Out (all over the Bay), they are the Empire of Evil when it comes to food taste and quality. McDonalds utterly annihilates In-N-Out in every way possible.

INO is like the Panda Express of burgers. Takes long to get your order. Costs too much for getting so little. And tastes bad in every way.

Danny… Wow…. I think you’ll find yourself in the minority there buddy.

21 nikki p August 27, 2010 at 4:17 PM

Hungry,

A friend recommended 5 Gugs Burgers and Fries where the old Fat Burger used to be in P.H. according to the reviews, they are supposed to blow In and Out out of the water. Give it a try, and tell me what you think……curious.

22 Leigha August 27, 2010 at 4:18 PM

I am also unimpressed with in n out. So few options, all you can order is a burger. I don’t understand how they draw so much business.

23 Ian August 27, 2010 at 4:21 PM

Stuffed bell peppers are awesome. There’s always tacos/burritos/tostadas.

24 Nikki P August 27, 2010 at 4:22 PM

Leigha: I would recommend Empanadas, lumpias or meatballs….like an Asian or Thai inspired flavor. Go to Allrecipes.com.

25 Nikki P August 27, 2010 at 4:23 PM

or http://www.projectfoodie.com…..my new favorite place on the web besides Claycord of course ;)

26 Ian August 27, 2010 at 4:29 PM

Swedish Meatballs are awesome too.

27 I'm The Urban Spaceman August 27, 2010 at 4:33 PM

Tom,

Your memory needs a little work, it’s been a Baskin-Robbins since at least the early 70′s.
Nation’s used to be where El Balazo is, perhaps that what you were thinking of?

28 Bulldog August 27, 2010 at 4:39 PM

Five Guys is great. Very limited menu, but everything is good.

29 Cowellian August 27, 2010 at 4:43 PM

Leigha@16,
My family loves dirty rice. I use Zatarain’s, but I toss in chopped tomatoes, maybe some mushrooms, and anything else that strikes my fancy.

30 Carl and Alex August 27, 2010 at 4:48 PM

We got ripped off at the Valero on Ygnacio Valley Road in Nut Creek. The sign on Broadway shows $2.97/gallon but in tiny, tiny letters it indicates that is the price with a car wash. I didn’t realize I was paying $3.07/gallon until I had started filling my tank. Don’t be fooled!

31 Ceiba August 27, 2010 at 4:56 PM

http://daviswiki.org/In-N-Out_Secret_Menu
Try the secret menu at In N Out next time. I recommend animal style. You can also get animal style fries which is overkill for me but still delicious.

32 Ceiba August 27, 2010 at 4:57 PM

BTW where is 5 Guys located?

33 nosey neighbor August 27, 2010 at 5:01 PM

Google “Beef and blue cheese casserole” so easy and quick! Stuff you probably have on hand. If you don’t have the cheese, dressing works too, just add it @ the end.

34 ConcordMike August 27, 2010 at 5:02 PM

I love In n Out burgers. The food is always fresh and consistent. The burgers remind me of the old days, made with simple ingredients and cooked to perfection.

They also pay their employees well and treat them fairly. You won’t see a help wanted sign out front, because they always have a waiting list of good people who want to work there.

35 E.Con August 27, 2010 at 5:02 PM

Paula trotter:

Wow did you decide that opinion this morning while reading the CCTimes with the article about it? Your mind is manipulated so easily.
It’s not a coincidence that you never posted an opinion on that ever before. EA has been announcing and promoting it fr quite some time now. And your points are oh so simialar. Ugh, honestly

36 Hogrider August 27, 2010 at 5:10 PM

Hungry, Where going to go to Nations, instead wanted to try 5 Guy’s this afternoon. Be prepared, took forever to find parking, waited in a long line,The burger wasn”t worth the hassle it to get there and Zagat’s rated it as the “Best” Hate to see who lost!

37 biggin August 27, 2010 at 5:21 PM

38 Kian August 27, 2010 at 5:29 PM

Speaking of burgers, I am reminded of ice cream. Did you know that Baskin Robbins, Breyer’s, Dreyer’s, Nestle, and Haagen Dazs serve ice cream with added Bovine Growth Hormone. The hormone was banned in Canada, Japan, the European Union, Australia, New Zealand, as well as other countries.

39 SAR August 27, 2010 at 5:29 PM

@Tom

I believe the resturant your refering to was ‘El Papagallo’ it was a Mexican food restaurant. I used to love that place!

40 Vallas August 27, 2010 at 5:41 PM

I imagine that there are thousands of Californian’s that won’t eat fast food except for In-N-Out Burger. For those folks that simply don’t get the In-N-Out fascination, it’s that simple, don’t get it.

41 filbert August 27, 2010 at 5:45 PM

“The Bluestar Moms want everyone to know we are doing our best to stop EA Sports from releasing the new Medal of Honor video game. It allows gamers to plays as the Taliban to kill US Troops. This is not just a pretend video game, this game is based on our current war.”
——————————————

People who support the constitution of the United States (including every service member who has sworn an oath to protect and defend the constitution) would like the Bluestar Moms to know that the First Amendment to the constitution protects the right of citizens to say what they want and that includes making video games.

42 Firzlaff August 27, 2010 at 5:51 PM

@ Leigha

Try a Cuban dish called Picadillo (savory ground beef) which is made with a soffrito (onions, green peppers, garlic), green olives, raisins, tomato sauce and vinegar.

43 Bug-Etta August 27, 2010 at 5:57 PM

Danny,

You simply are not human…McDonald’s?

Carl and Alex,

Drive another 300 feet and pay cash at the independant station on the corner and you will save at least 5 cents per gallon…nice, honest folks that have great pricing on smog test.

44 Radar August 27, 2010 at 6:00 PM

Hungry they havn’t even started construction on that In an Out yet. Just a empty pad.

45 Bug-Etta August 27, 2010 at 6:07 PM

ConcordMike,

Your assessment of In-N-Out is spot on! If they read that and don’t call offering you a marketing job, they’re nuts!

Nikki, I’m still trying to find 5 Gug’s Burger’s, where is it?

46 AnotherAnon August 27, 2010 at 6:13 PM

SAR, #39
El Papagallo used to be on Clayton Rd, I’m guessing about where Jack ‘N The Box is located now. Sometime in the late 60s, the restaurant burned down and they relocated to another location at Oak Grove and Ygnacio Valley Rd, where Safeway is now. I don’t recall ever seeing one at Oak Grove and Treat.

47 The Original Anon E. Mouse August 27, 2010 at 6:22 PM

Hey, it’s been months since I’ve had meat and was craving a bacon cheeseburger so the bf and roomates decided to stroll over to 5 guys today to test it out …it’s about 12:15, line to the corner and I’m starving after sleeping in and not eating breakfast. So I decide to have something I know is good and head to Nation’s!!
Mmm, Mmm GOOD! Glad to hear I didn’t miss much @5guys. Checked out their prices after and they were almost a dollar more for the same items. Pfft. . . . This place is a fad, they will go the way of fat burger. In -n- out ain’t all that great either but can be a sad substitute for Nation’s in a pinch.
I will stick to Nation’s for my quarterly burger! :D

48 Bug-Etta August 27, 2010 at 6:24 PM

Larrabee,

Thanks for the info on Bonds and your point about the plate appearances. You make a great case and it makes perfect sense to include those appearances because the player was in the box, risking injury, running the bases, etc.
The announcers for the Giants keep referring to it as a loophole so that’s the term I am using. The problem I have is “adding” false at-bats just to win an individual award. That part of it seems shady to me and I would like to see the formula changed to avoid that possibility. Whaddaya think?

49 Ben August 27, 2010 at 6:51 PM

5 Guys is right across the street, on the corner, from Pleasant Hill Century Theaters!

50 Go EA August 27, 2010 at 7:01 PM

You know.. all this about bluestar moms.. give me a break. I totally support their sons and daughters on the front lines, but I betcha most of them grew up playings COWBOYS AND INDIANS, and COPS AND ROBBERS (someone had to be the BAD guy, right?)

Bluestar moms, this is nothing new, it’s ok, it doesn’t mean we want to shoot our troops in “real life” – it’s a game.. .it’s a game…. it’s a game! If you find it disrespectful, please don’t play it, and if you do, please don’t play a Taliban.

51 to leigha August 27, 2010 at 7:04 PM

Shepherds Pie can be made with ground beef. Brown the beef with onion, garlic, some tomato sauce, veges you like (i.e. peas, beans, corn, etc) and then put in a casserole dish, top with mashed potatoes and heat thru. Delicious.

52 Larrabee August 27, 2010 at 7:05 PM

El Papagallo was at Oak Grove and Ygnacio. There was a coffee shop at Oak Grove and Treat called Marie’s Pie Shop, next to Lucky’s (Trader Joe’s). I think it was the Nation’s location.

53 Mad Mom August 27, 2010 at 7:23 PM

Paula Trotter~~~ I get what you’re saying. The previews that I saw of the game were disgusting! That said…they have every right to produce it. And, as American’s we have every right to not buy it. I think the best we can do to honor our service people is to actively support our constitution. That’s what our soldiers do every time they put their lives on the line for our country.
Your heart is surely in the right place. Blue Star Moms rock!

54 Luna August 27, 2010 at 7:32 PM

58 49er Fan August 27, 2010 at 8:18 PM

Sooooo the 49ers @ Raiders preseason game is blacked out tomorrow night. I know it’s preseason, but the 3rd game is usually the tune-up for the season with the starters playing into the early 2nd half.

Will be on tape delay and broadcast at 9pm though…I think.

Thanks Al Davis!

Glad the regular season matchup will be in SF..

GO 49ERS!

61 EdiBirsan August 27, 2010 at 8:47 PM

@tom/Baskin Robins
I got to Concord in 83 and I am pretty sure it was still a Baskin Robbins then.
Trader Joes use to be Lucky’s then Alberstons.
I live between Treat and Monument off of Oak Grove (Alla is between
Chalomar and Rockne) and I often walk down to there.
They have added a Peets in the corner of that shopping area where the Shoe Store used to be (it moved across the ally).

I seem to recall one of the old timers telling me that Treat used to stop at Oak Grove and that it wasn’t developed into the thorough fare it is now going up to Clayton Road till the 50′s (>?) maybe around the time they did Canterbury Village = anyone remember exactly?

62 Feckin Irish Mouse August 27, 2010 at 9:06 PM

Leigha…
I have a recipe that is super easy…….
Sunday Cassarole
1 lb ground beef
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1 med onion – chopped
I bag Tater Tot
In a cassarole dish layer as follows:
Ground Beef
Chopped Onion
Soup
Tater Tots
Bake at 400 for about a 45 minutes or until tots are golden

63 Larrabee August 27, 2010 at 9:10 PM

Bug-Etta,
I agree, focusing on an individuals’ stats seems shady. It’s not a “natural” baseball strategy. I can’t see it going anywhere though. The ways a player can get plate appearances without affecting his batting average are walks, hit-by-pitch, and sacrifices. Walks and HBP are pretty much controlled by the opposing pitcher; so that leaves us with sacrifices. I can’t see manager Bruce Bochy wasting one of his best hitters just to move a base runner along; especially since the Giants are in a VERY tight race for the NL wild card. I think the announcers are just trying to gin up some extra interest in the game with a little “what if” scenario. Not a bad thing!

64 Confused August 27, 2010 at 9:12 PM

I hope you guys arent talking about the multiplayer aspect of the game. That aspect of the game has always been Americans Vs the Enemy… And you have always been able to be the Enemy.. Cuz well.. in multiplayer you have pick sides.. It doesnt mean you are for the “taliban”and not for the americans.. Look at every War game ever made.. theres always been the Enemy side that you can control on multiplayer so you can play.. would you rather it be americans vs americans?

65 Mechanic August 27, 2010 at 9:20 PM

We stumbled onto some smart/good mechanics who are very reasonable and don’t take advantage of customers. They are in Concord, but it’s worth driving a couple miles extra to go to them.

Choe’s Auto Center, 1772 East Street Concord, CA 94520-2135 Phone: (925) 689-6731. It is on the corner of Concord Blvd. and East Street.

From Clayton, take Clayton Rd. toward Concord, turn left onto Concord Blvd., go 1 block.

There have been several instances where we took our vehicle to the dealer, and the dealer told us it would be close to $1,000 to repair the problem. In each case, Choe solved the problem quickly for around $100 (1/10 the price of the dealer)! Also, they are always very careful to be sure to show me the old/bad parts they removed and explain the problem carefully. Also, sometimes the dealer would say it was a much more complex problem than it really was.

For example, the dealer kept our vehicle several hours, told us we needed a new computer for around $700 plus labor to install it. Choe’s looked at it, and within minutes said there was a loose wire, which they soldered, and charged a very minimal fee, resolving the problem.

Also, our window regulator had gone out several times, and replacement at the dealer was several hundred dollars. Choe’s replaced it for a fraction of the amount.

Another time, our vehicle seemed to have something electrical blow up, the dealer suggested it was a major problem. Choe’s just replaced the battery, and it’s worked fine ever since.

66 CVHSgradclassof80 August 27, 2010 at 9:24 PM

The original El Papagallo was on Clayton Rd directly across from the fire station where the hotel is now, The big joke when it burned down was, How could that happen with the fire department right across the street. They then opened at Oak Grove and Yngacio, just wasn’t the same. Five guys, are they over by the theaters in P Hill?

67 CVHSgradclassof80 August 27, 2010 at 9:27 PM

On another note, was out at Family fest delivering hay bale to sit on today, Looks like it will be pretty good deal for this weekend.

68 George Newman August 27, 2010 at 9:58 PM

There’s a DUI checkpoint in Walnut Creek tonight! Over by Autopia getting on the freeway going North! Warn your friends and be careful! Also, there’s about 75 Cops there to patrol everything so this is costing a lot of money!!

69 Jodie August 27, 2010 at 10:22 PM

Does anyone know what is going on in Concord on Mt. Diablo Street near Todos Santos Park. There were a lot of cops, fire trucks and ambulances and it was blocking the whole street. Just down the street from Spaghetti Factory. I haven’t seen that many police cars in a long time. I think there is a bar on the same side as Spaghetti Factory.

70 Jess August 27, 2010 at 10:37 PM

Did anyone else see the people on Monument tonight over by Kohl’s with the signs that were yelling at the passing cars? They were yelling out stuff from the bible I believe. I was wondering who they were? A church group possibly?

71 Curious August 27, 2010 at 11:07 PM

Did anyone else hear the gunshots (maybe 2) over near Concord Blvd & Ayers? Definitetly wasn’t a firecracker! Just curious! Let me know

72 Antler August 27, 2010 at 11:24 PM

Curious at #68~~~ I live on Concord Blvd. not far from Bailey Road. The two loud noises sounded as though they were south of us maybe in the Thornwood Drive area—sounded more like firecrackers to me, but the dogs over in that neighborhood went crazy for a few minutes. Could you hear that from your house?

73 Antler August 27, 2010 at 11:36 PM

Had dinner tonight at an excellent, upscale new restaurant, “Bravo Italian Bistro”. The food was superb, as was the presentation and service. There was a talented pianist there who is a Concordian!!! Her name is Jessica Thompson, and I found out she is a composer with her own work on a C/D available through Amazon (and maybe elsewhere). Her repertoire tonight at the grand piano was a lovely, quiet variety of standard popular ballads and light classical—not obtrusive. Perfect for a very nice, romantic meal (time to propose, gentlemen)!

74 Curious August 27, 2010 at 11:58 PM

Antler~Yes we heard 2 shots ine of which did not sound like firecrackers or M80 type and several minutes later a single that was more likely a firecracker. The report was from some type of gun, grew up in a gun family the sounds are pretty unmistakable!

75 Anonymous August 28, 2010 at 12:09 AM

The “big deal” about In-N-Out (IMHO) is: 1) their beef is fresh, never frozen 2) their potatoes (for fries) are fresh, never frozen 3) their lettuce wasn’t chopped up and bagged weeks before being shipped to the store, it was prepped “that” day 4) they pay a decent wage to their team members 5) they care enough about their team members to be closed on holidays, so the crew can be with their families, too 6) they’re less expensive than McDonald’s, 7) they do “one thing” and do it very well, they don’t try to rake in “any” business by doing salads and frappes and smoothies and coffee drinks, and, the biggest thing that keeps me going back, 8) THEY ARE ALWAYS CLEAN, POLITE, EXCEPTIONALLY HELPFUL, SPEAK ENGLISH WELL, and APPRECIATE THEIR CUSTOMERS. Can’t tell you how many fast food joints in this area need to learn that last lesson.

76 yep, me too August 28, 2010 at 12:33 AM

Curious – I heard a boom coming from that area. I heard on scanner it was shots coming from a humvee? Ayers and Netto I believe.
then a few minutes later I heard some screeching from a truck or a car and then what sounded like an m80 in the vicinity of claycord/alro area. I think someone over there has extra ones from the 4th because every so often they light one off. How can someone just light one off and no neighbors complain? Crazy town it’s getting to be.

77 Borednhii August 28, 2010 at 12:40 AM

There was a shooting off dekinger tonight yes.

They both fired one shot, each striking the other, thus making the world a better place. Jk

78 Mustang Mom August 28, 2010 at 6:29 AM

Ok ,I know someone has asked this before ,but I need to find a good place to get a mani and a pedi, somewhere in Concord or P-Hill. Can anyone recommend a place? Not worried about the price as long as they do a good job.

79 big jim August 28, 2010 at 6:54 AM

Tom #11
Down from BR, where Round Table is now, I believe used to be a Sambos. Think it was late 60s or early 70s. There was one across the street from Park and Shop as well.

80 Bug-Etta August 28, 2010 at 7:22 AM

George Newman,

Nice community service work there, buddy! WTF?

Jess,

Get involved! If you see something that raises your suspicion, pull over and ask them what’s going on. If you fear being “attacked”, and I don’t mean physically, just get answer’s to your question and move on. The more we all get involved, the more sense everything going on around us will make.

We go to B&C on Clayton Rd. I don’t know if they smog or not. But they are good.

82 Lynn R August 28, 2010 at 8:47 AM

Atticus Thrax,
Thank you for getting us in touch with Rogers. It took a while to work up the nerve but I finally called him. My sister and I start classes next week. I’m so excited! We’ll be using my husband’s pistol as I don’t have one yet. We’re supposed to bring eye protection and hearing protection and ammo. What is a good kind of ammo for a .38 revolver for practice? I know Big-5 sells it. Is that a good place, are there cheaper places? My husband said you can get it online, but it may not get here in time.

Clayton Valley Auto…925-682-2281…Right around the corner from the Fire Station on Clayton Road…1505 Rishell Drive. Very Courteous, Doesn’t do unnecessary work and will let you know if you can wait to have something major done. Also, reasonable.

84 NewGuy August 28, 2010 at 9:51 AM

New to the area and to blogging. Public safety is a big concern for me and my family. Can anyone enlighten me a crime in Concord and about the PD here. Good or bad it’s good to know. What about fire/EMS. Appreciate the heads up. Who’d want to be the Taluban anyways?

85 Garcia August 28, 2010 at 9:57 AM

Tried 5 Guys Burgers and Fries last night. VERY impressed. Got the double bacon cheeseburger, first time there so go big or go home. The reason I am fine them them being a little pricier is that they include ALL condiments and toppings for free. I have never been anywhere that doesn’t charge for grilled mushrooms, and In and Out is the only place I know of that doesn’t charge for grilled onions. I had something like 8 or 9 toppings/sauces on my burger last night. Soooo good. And the fries were quite good as well! Gotta try the cajun ones next time.

86 Red August 28, 2010 at 10:41 AM

I go to a place called PK nails to get my nails done, and I love them!
I dont have their number or exact address but it is on baily rd. it is on the corner of baily and clayton, right near cutting loose and subway. I especially love their pedicures!

89 ms. anony August 28, 2010 at 1:51 PM

if you don’t like in-n-out, DONT GO!

90 the Shi ite August 28, 2010 at 1:54 PM

#75 said it well!
If you don’t get In-n-Out, maybe it’s because your taste buds are warped by the preservative laced frozen fries and patties at the Big Mc or Burger Klone, kind of like drinking chocolate milk and then trying to drink lemonade.

As for the Big Ice Cream makers using rBGH or rBST, didn’t know that. The HORMONE causes cows to produce 40% more milk – increases mastitis, a painful bacterial infection of the udder which causes inflammation, swelling, pus and blood secretions into milk. To treat mastitis outbreaks, the dairy industry relies on antibiotics.. NO THANKS.

Just had left overs.
Yum Hunan Express delivered last night~love the ”rest” the next day. Yum. Best left overs.
Been in town for about 2.5 weeks for business and have enjoyed restaurants in the old home town….beats cooking too.
Also tried the new Burger King and Taco Bell ~ love that junk food too.

Now for a breakfast or two…

”Hear here die at (diet) home.”

What?
Typo’s?
Old bat can’t type..roflol.

Eat here die at (diet) home.

Now~I need to get my city business done and get back to the farm.

We raise antibiotic free polled Hereford/Angus cross…lots of black baldies.
Lots of milk, and fat steers ready for butchering.

We have some dandy Mama’s and babies in the north pasture (rented to another cattle person)…Texas Long Horns…polka dots and horns…skinny hips…lol. Love to look at them. Don’t want to get too close tho…lol.

Who is eating EGGS and CHICKEN now? The contaminated feed fed all around the nation to our ”poultry” is not healthy for the bird or the human.
And how long has this feed been fed out?

How much contaminated fried chicken and how many eggs have you eaten, and luckily didn’t get salmonella symptoms?

Who is responsible for safe food besides the farmer. Who checks it out before it is sold to the public?

Why aren’t these inspectors catching the problems?

Amazing … every time you buy fresh food from the market, someone else has your safety in their hands~~~~~~do they really care?
MO

*antibiotic free generally means the ”time” between the ”shot” and the ”slaughter house”. Growth hormones and antibiotics used regularly to try and improve the product is dangerous…an occasional ”vet” call is not.

Some dairies have ”infection prevention” in the feed, so they don’t have to deal with sick cows. The milk is suffering here: and you are consuming it.

When your chicken for dinner has never put her feet on the ground, and grew at an accelerated rate~~you are eating dangerous drumsticks.

Tip: Get 4 chickens for eggs, one small steer and raise them in your back yard.
Goat’s milk isn’t bad once you get used to it: and he/she only eats one screen door a year.

KEVIN R – I ran into you at the Clayton concert two weeks ago. You gave me your new number and PROMISED you would answer your phone!!! I called you over a week ago, but I haven’t heard from you. Did you write the number down correctly, or what? Are you interested in doing the work? If not, that’s fine, but please just let me know. I would like to give you first dibs at installing the last two or three plus lots of other stuff. I will be ready pretty soon to have the work done. I don’t want to leave my name on here, so please contact me here unless you already have my number.

I don’t even know if you are a Claycordian, but surely someone will recognize your name and drop you a line. Thanks a bunch. I hope to talk to you VERY soon!!!

111 The Original Anon E. Mouse August 29, 2010 at 1:52 PM

So… something that has been bothering me the last couple days, how do I get my neighbors to stop parking in front of my house? My garage is in the backyard so I pull out the side driveway every day to run errands, go to school, etc. The white trashy ones tend to block my driveway, their friends and the mexican neighbors across the street tend to park to close to the driveway ramp so I can’t pull out easily. Oh, and the neighbors across the street park directly across from the driveway so I can’t just back out across the street and turn down the road. I have to crank the wheel and usually do a five point turn to get out of my own phucking driveway.
Luckily, no one has blocked the mailbox lately. I used to get guff from the postperson for my old neighbors across the street parking in front of it.
I’ve considered posting a sign, or borrowing a car to park there for a week. I don’t know spanish and I won’t go over to the other neighbor’s house because they have two unrestrained poorly socialized dogs that always bark and charge at strangers (and other dogs).
Maybe buy a motorcycle and park it right before the driveway entrance?
And talking with them would only help so much, there are about half a dozen mexicans living across the street and friends always drop by, same with the whites next door, friends coming and going all hours parking in front of my house. One car I’d never seen before partially blocked my driveway overnight. Good thing I didn’t have to be anywhere the next day, I would have been pissed. Not like ‘get my pistol and shoot the car dead’ pissed; more like ‘get my car jack and push/roll the car into the street out of my driveway’ mad.

So … post a sign, block the spot?

I woke up to the sound of sirens around 1am on Saturday but living off of Monument/Detroit, didn’t think too much of it…until they got louder and louder and a high speed chase with 3 cop cars went past my house on Pine Creek Way. Does anyone know what that was about?

113 The Original Anon E. Mouse August 29, 2010 at 2:03 PM

Oh and about those dogs, I assume I report them to County animal control. I was fine with them being irresponsible owners until the other day. Hey if they want to be sued and charged for a dog bite that’s their prerogative. But I came home the other day after classes, it was 109 outside that day and I heard some dogs barking inside a RV parked in their backyard. WOW… how much intelligence is required to understand you don’t leave animals inside a aluminum oven in scorching heat???

116 fjdlfjdsl August 29, 2010 at 4:15 PM

Anon E. Mouse…I’ve seen people put orange cones out in front of their house. I don’t know how well it would work, since the people could simply move them, but it would show that you don’t appreciate them parking there. Also, the next time someone blocks your driveway (even partially), call the police immediately, that will show your neighbors that you are not going to put up with the BS. You may end up being forced to park in front of your own house in order to keep these inconsiderate jerks from parking in front of it. Keep in mind that if your neighbors are coming and going all hours of the night, there may be some illegal activity going on.

117 anonamom August 29, 2010 at 5:18 PM

O’mouse — Do Not park your particular car out front—you want to still have all of it the next day! Same thing would happen to a bike. You’re not allowed to paint or otherwise mark a curb, but two 4″ white “L” lines in the street on each side might help. I’m sure you’re artistic. Make a cardboard stencil. Good timing is everything though.

118 Rob August 29, 2010 at 5:27 PM

Happened to see the Claycord post of the old Simon’s hardware store in W.C. I grew up in W.C. and remember such notable places as the Doggie Diner on N. Main St., across the street and just North of the Greyhound bus station with the blue plastic tops on the fence. The International Raceway where my brother and I used to take our 1/24 scale slot cars and race, on the corner of Main and Civic, used to have a adobe facade, arched, painted white. The Safeway grocery store on Newell Ave. Yellow tile exterior with that huge green neon “S”.

New Guy wrote: “Can anyone enlighten me a crime in Concord and about the PD here. Good or bad it’s good to know. What about fire/EMS.”

If you read this blog regularly, it will seem like there is a lot of crime, because so much of it gets reported here. But “they” say that statistically, crime has been going down in Concord. It sure does seem like we are getting more shootings, etc., though. Overall, I am comfortable living here. I just wouldn’t walk down Monument Blvd. after dark though. (Or a few other areas of town.) Concord has a good police department; most of the officers are really good. PD administration has some real bone heads, but the Chief is leaving soon (Yeah!) so we’ll see who gets that job next, and what he does with the department. (I didn’t even bother with a “he/she” as the department is historically extremely sexist and pretty racist as well. But, you didn’t ask about that.) For the average citizen dealing with the cop on the street, you shouldn’t have any problems. They are a good group.

Re: Fire and AMR, I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them, and have never heard any negatives. I think they do an outstanding job.

Welcome to the area, New Guy!

We should have a contest to see who has the worse neighbors from hell. We’ve had the worse weekend since July 4. The loudmouths moved their pool from across the yard to the other side of the fence next to our bedrooms and TV room. Then the entire frigging weekend they whooped and yelled and increased the noise level from what it had been before. We hear them with our windows closed and cannot open them on that side of the house. We can hear them in the rooms on the other side also where we do have the windows open. These guys are the most inconsiderate *holes. We cannot relax in our own home or yard. Holidays are even worse so the next weekend will be another one in hell. I am ready to kill myself to get away from it.

If you don’t mind oats that have come out the other end already, then that’s what you’ll get, as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Make a decent offer, and the right price will magically present itself to you.

But it depends if you want it searchable by google/optimized, or just a place for business on the web. Do you need shopping cart capabilities? Also blogs are very easy to customize these days http://www.wordpress.com has many themes that can look like a site and are easy to “skin” make your own and keep updated often.

Anyone else run into trouble at the “So Quick Car Wash” in Concord, on Matheson Road near Clayton Road. Went there today (8/30/10) and the first bay I tried just ate a few quarters and wouldn’t take any more, so I tried the bay right next to it and it took about 8 quarters and spit out 3 of them and would not take any more. At that point a guy who was in a third bay came by and had the same complaint. There is no owner contact info anywhere on site, and of course no coin return lever on any of the machines. Great way to keep your profit margins high, but light on customer service.

142 Corker August 31, 2010 at 9:44 AM

I know it is a little early, but we tried this tasty recipe last weekend……

Heirloom tomato bloody marys

Makes two

Ingredients
•1 ½ pounds ripe heirloom tomatoes
•1 leek, white and light green parts only, coarsely chopped
•½ cup coarsely chopped cilantro leaves
•1 teaspoon tamari soy sauce
•2 teaspoons bottled horseradish
•1 teaspoon hot red chili pepper, finely chopped
•1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
•4 ounces vodka
•Garnish: large stalk celery

Directions
1.Purée tomatoes, leeks, cilantro and tamari in a blender until smooth. If you prefer less “texture” in your drink, you can remove tomato seeds and solids in a sieve or food mill at this point; otherwise, add horseradish, hot pepper, lemon juice and vodka, and stir well. Pour into two glasses, add ice cubes. Garnish with celery, and relish completely.

Truly worth the extra effort.
