CLAYCORD resident “Ken The Bug Guy” gets his own show on the Science Channel

August 9, 2010 14:07 pm · 33 comments

You might remember “Ken The Bug Guy”, he’s the man who we’ve talked about in the past with a cool, and very large bug shop in North Concord.

Starting in 2011, Ken will have a show on the Science Channel, which, according to the Science Channel, will be about the little-known world of exotic (and sometimes creepy) insects.

Ken tells CLAYCORD.com the show will be filmed inside his Concord shop, and at various locations where they go to collect different bugs.

He says if you visit the shop or watch the show, you shouldn’t worry, because most of the bugs are harmless….

We don’t really handle things that are considered very dangerous with our hands. Tarantulas can not kill you thier venom is not that potent.

We have had many dangerous bugs in the past but most of the stuff we carry is not going to kill you. It’s a misconception many people have about a lot of bugs.

The show will be called “BUGGING OUT”, and although it won’t start until 2011, a sneak preview can be seen on October 19th on the Science Channel.

Pictured above is a spider from Ken’s shop, and Ken with his family, along with the show’s host, Wilmer Valderrama.

If you want to visit “Ken The Bug Guy”, his shop is located at 1717 Solano Way #10 in Concord, or visit him online by clicking ON THIS LINK.

Cool, let us know when more taping will be done so I can cover!

I’m thinking there will not be a huge viewing public for this show, as the anti-bug people seem to be in the majority.

And heck, what the devil does he have CRAWLING on his arm?

Giving me the heebee-jeebees

Scared-y cats!

Crawling on Kens arm is a Vinegaroon or Whip Scorpion, it is not actually a scorpion but it is in the arachnid family and Harmless. Tried that already Ian, they won’t let us wear anything branded:(

Jtkatec, It looks like a cockroach. I blew it up ’til it got blurry; there’s something on his wife’s shirt as well. Looks like a big crane fly.

That little girl looks like one of the Olsen twins from Full House days. Congrats Ken, won’t be visiting your shop any time soon but if someone asks where to get good bugs I know where to send them.

21 Nom de Plume August 9, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Congrats to Ken and his family. I’ve seen his wife and daughter at the coffee shop. They are always happy, kind and well-adjusted. Are bugs the secret?

Leave it to a poogus-waxas guy to pitch 7eat9!! (hehehehe) Can hardly wait till the show is on!! This is wonderful news!! (did Julia tell you we are her agents!!)

23 KenInConcord August 9, 2010 at 7:30 pm

I tried to pitch a show to the Discovery Channel. It was about a team of truck drivers that make deliveries around the Bay Area. And always come home to their families at night. It was called “Nice Road Truckers”! They turned it down!
