4 Anonymous July 2, 2010 at 9:04 AM

It’s hard to comment when I don’t know the outsiders. Hopefully a good thing!

5 Anonymous July 2, 2010 at 10:13 AM

Where is the principal from that is going to MDE-Elk Grove??

6 Anonymous July 2, 2010 at 10:48 AM

Oh, please, somebody find out if #7 is correct. I don’t have time right now, but maybe later today I can research it.

It sure could be. Some new appointees spoke at last night’s board meeting (July 1). You can review the board video for yourself at the mdusd blog and see what you think. Check in at 19-20 minutes into the meeting when the voting is occurring and new appointees that were present took time to speak. The video wasn’t the greatest quality, but there sure is a strong similarity to the man pictured in your link.
BTW It is unfortunate what happened in 2008. If it is the same person, don’t start a Claycord witch hunt based on this. It would not be productive. Security breach accidents happen and consequences have already occurred. To be fair, this person in your linked article lost their job over the 2008 incident, and there is no doubt more information regarding the situation than the article gives. Let’s make sure we have a secure information system in MDUSD. That is something we can and should focus on!

To # 8-CITY GIRL…Classic apathy on Claycord.

#7 — After reviewing last night’s MDUSD board meeting on live feed, Dr. Christopher Nugent (approx 20.17 minutes into the feed), who was appointed to Mt. Diablo Elementary as principal, certainly looks like the person from your link. Chris Nugent from the Williamson County school district in Tennessee “resigned” after a huge security breach involving thousands of children’s social security numbers being released through the internet. Upon reviewing several news reports about the Liberty Coalition, who helped tracked down the breach, this does indeed sound like MDE’s new principal. I am very curious whether MDUSD uncovered this during their employment background check. At the very least, the MDUSD board members and Dr. Lawrence should be made aware of this. Once our local press gets ahold of this, this could just add more fuel to the MDUSD fire.

12 anonymous July 2, 2010 at 1:25 PM

I just looked up the news articles about Christopher Nugent. Yikes!! Not just a security breach, but he was also picked up for a DUI!!! After all that has gone on at MDE, I can’t believe they would give them someone like this. He was a only Vice Principal in Elk Grove, and in office admin. in Nashville. The district should at least give this community a more experienced administrator. I hope the parents of MDE get together just like Bancroft’s and tell the district what they think. This is unacceptable. It really tells me just how inept the district really is! Heaven help us!!!

13 Anonymous July 2, 2010 at 1:55 PM

#9 If you checked the article about the security breach, is was a federal law that was broken. They had to contact the Department of Education!! It was put like this, it happened, he figured it out, but did not tell anyone what had happened, which allowed time for the student’s info ie: SS#s to get out. It’s like you were in a major car accident and you just drove away and didn’t tell anyone. It only came to the school’s attention when a student found their SS# on the internet and a parent complained. Something has to be said about integrity and character here. I’m concerned. And once more info gets out there, the more your credability is questioned. MDE parents are a tough crowd, and would not settle for this.
BTW : As far as I know, MDUSD does not use student SS# as an ID. NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND requires districts to get rid of SS#s as a form of ID.

Did you see this one?

Read it for more alleged legal trouble.

15 Panic July 2, 2010 at 2:33 PM

They probably got him for a better price then the rest of the principals available?

16 Anon July 2, 2010 at 4:44 PM

I am so glad that my kids are done with this school. MDE is supposed to be one of the best and it is BAD BAD BAD! I am so disappointed with the yahoos on the Board and the District officials. How in the HELL can they hire a leader like this. You thought it was bad with the other guy just wait until this man who breaks the law is in charge of teaching our children.

I wish with all my heart that the union would quit running our state and schools into the ground. Change comes at the ballot box so people do your research before you vote.

Does anyone know what happened to the Principal that was there for the last 3 years? I have yet to see his name come up on a school.

17 Anonymous July 2, 2010 at 6:35 PM

I agree that the person they hired for Mt. Diablo Elementary made some bad choices and has paid a price, but this news will not be good for the school and the district. The school has had many problems over the past few years and Clayton is a small town. With this news all over Clayton already, how can this person even have a chance to succeed? Gary and Sherry often comment on these blogs, was the board aware of the past problems this person had???

18 Anonymous July 2, 2010 at 8:48 PM

This new superintendent make Gary Mc Henry look pretty darn good!

19 Anon July 2, 2010 at 8:53 PM

Wow, I’m just floored. After everything MDE has been through, 2 transferred teachers, 1 transferred office manager, no principal and we get this? You’ve got to be kidding me. 3 principals in the last 5 years and this is what we get? MDUSD, please tell us this is a big fat joke. Seriously, it must be a joke. How could you? Did you not know? Did you not think we’d find out? What are you going to say ? What is Nugent going to say?

Way to go Superintendent. WAY TO F’ING GO! Great job a-hole!

20 Anonymous July 2, 2010 at 9:23 PM

I hope you don’t talk that way around your kids, #19.

21 Bring Back MCHENRY July 2, 2010 at 9:55 PM

Not really, but what the hell is this Sup thinking? Thank you board for not giving him authority to appoint his own “people.” He obviously is an idiot and has poor selection skills.

22 Clayton Mom July 2, 2010 at 10:25 PM

Where’s Killjoy when we need him/her. He/she said they were going to the meeting at MDE this week because they had a vested interest. How does killjoy feel now?

23 #19 July 2, 2010 at 11:17 PM

Fear not #20, I don’t talk like that in front of my kids, only to adults who are supposed to be keeping our students best interests in the forefront and who have so clearly failed in their duties. Sorry, some things evoke swearing. Protecting my kids is one of them. Get over it.

24 Eye On the MDUSD Board July 2, 2010 at 11:36 PM

I sent an email to the MDUSD asking questions please see the response from Linda Mayo below:

Mr. XXXXXX:
MDUSD is aware of the allegations posted on a blog.
This is a personnel matter and merits an investigation.
Linda Mayo,
Board of Education

25 City Girl July 3, 2010 at 12:52 AM

#7 – Thanks very much for bringing this to everyone’s attention.

Thanks to everyone who researched Chris Nugent today. I would have researched it myself, but I was gone all day and just got home.

26 Anonymous July 3, 2010 at 4:09 AM

potty mouth

27 Anonymous July 3, 2010 at 5:09 AM

From an outsider:
How can one get a job in the Education Department in the MDUSD without a background check?
I realize Google can be wrong, but as many articles available on the internet, from the City/County/State where this person was employed, how could any SMART person miss it? Also there are pictures.

Was MDUSD unable to access the internet or do they not know how to?
You don’t need to worry about the perp being hired, you need to WORRY ABOUT WHO IS DOING THE HIRING IN THE MDUSD. The incompetent people are already working for you.

28 Anonymous July 3, 2010 at 10:22 AM

I feel confident after what I’ve learned through a few emails that the board did not know this. I feel that the Superintendent either failed if he knew this, or that Julie Braun Martin failed in what seems to be her first placement of her new position. I think the board will probably be ripping them a new one at the next meeting.

29 Hungry? July 3, 2010 at 10:35 AM

Come on over to Meadow Homes at 7:30 for a yummy breakfast and then stop back on by at 10:30 for brunch. All for FREEEEEEEEEEE!

Teachers are laid off but there is enough funds for food.:(

30 Stoopid people July 3, 2010 at 11:00 AM

Hungry, money for needy children, low income schools and overall hungry people, come from other sources. It is not the same money used to pay teacher. I really wish there was a way to only allow even partially educated posts through. It’s really an insult to the rest of us who take the time to research before we speak.

31 Anonymous July 3, 2010 at 11:24 AM

Hungry,

The district does not fund this, they receive Federal and or State Funds which mandate that they can only be used for meals for low income students. Wish we could use the funds for teachers. So take this to your representatives and government. Who are hurting?? Those of us who are middle class, what is done for our students?

32 Anoymous July 3, 2010 at 12:42 PM

Yes, this “feeding of the ‘hungry'” is funded by the FEDERAL government. ANYONE under the age of 18, may come and get free food with NO questions asked! You do not have to be a student or prove you are under 18. Just come and say you are under 18, and you will be fed. You do not have to prove income!

This is provided at other title 1 schools, as well. This program has been around for several years. And…the same people come every year. The same ones whose parents do not work year after year and many whose parents drop them off at school in the family Escalade. They don’t work, get free everything and drive fancy cars!!! This free food program is in addition to the free lunch and breakfasts these students receive everyday during the school year.

I believe the fed gov spend billions annually on free food programs nationwide. It is out of control and a disgrace.

33 anonymous July 3, 2010 at 4:11 PM

Just thinking. To volunteer in any classroom in MDUSD you have to have fingerprints taken which leads to background checks. This new principal didn’t have to do that? hmmmm or is it ok if you just have a little record?

34 City Girl July 3, 2010 at 6:41 PM

#33 – It could be b/c DUI is a misdemeanor, not a felony, at least in CA. I don’t think the fingerprint check reveals misdemeanor convictions, but I could be wrong. Was Nugent actually convicted of any felonies? I doubt it, or the fingerprint scan would have revealed it. Are there pending charges?

35 Anonymous July 3, 2010 at 7:02 PM

Why did Mt. Diablo HS get a new principal?

36 The Original Anon E. Mouse July 3, 2010 at 7:05 PM

Umm so it’s fine for our teachers and management (who deal with our kids daily) to be a convicted criminal, AS long as it’s only a misdemeanor???
WOW

37 City Girl July 3, 2010 at 9:25 PM

#36 – Okay, like I said, I could be wrong. Here is the wording taken from a district “classified application.” I imagine the same or stronger applies to administrative applications.

PERSONAL DATA AND HISTORY
1. Have you ever been convicted and/or arrested of any offense, other than a minor traffic violation, that has not been sealed,
expunged or statutorily eradicated? If yes, please explain in Section 5. Note: State law requires that all applicants prior
to employment be fingerprinted and prohibits employment of any person convicted of a serious or violent felony or certain
sex and narcotic offenses. Except for these offenses, conviction is not an absolute bar to employment. Failure to reveal
convictions and/or arrests is grounds for immediate termination.
2. Have you ever been discharged, forced to resign, or released during a probationary period from any position? If yes,
explain in Section 5. If answer is yes, it is not necessarily a bar to employment. Each case is given individual consideration,
based on job-relatedness.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL APPLICANTS
MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION

1. Convictions and/or arrests: A conviction and/or arrest may not necessarily disqualify you from the job for which you have applied.
Convictions include diversionary offenses, or other offenses that have been plea bargained or for which you have pleaded no contest.
Failure to reveal convictions and/or arrests is grounds for immediate termination. Have you had any convictions including
felonies or misdemeanors that have not been sealed, expunged or statutorily eradicated? Do not include minor traffic violations.
Yes No
If you answered “Yes,” please attach a statement that includes the nature and the date of the conviction.

3. Have you ever been discharged or asked to resign from a position?
Yes No
If you answered “Yes,” please attach a statement that includes the reason for the discharge or resignation, the date of the discharge
or resignation, and the name and address of the employer or organization.

38 Anonymous July 3, 2010 at 10:21 PM

Funny that in today’s CC Times Mr. Allen stated that he wanted a greater oversite of the hiring of administrators so that they could check and recheck references to make sure they get the best hires but then he rubber stamped the supers choices possibly hiring a “high risk” as principal…GREAT oversite Mr. Allen… come to think of it, the board is batting well below 50% on their admin choices. Heck, they let more qualified management level people leave than they keep and retain. Shouldn’t this candidate have been screened properly by personnel and any liabilities vetted? Same old same old in the mdusd!

39 Anonymous July 4, 2010 at 1:31 PM

Do you think since our Sup is from the Sacramento area, that perhaps he knows about Mr. Nugent who is from the same area, Elk Grove?? Looks a little funny to me.

40 Anonymous July 4, 2010 at 2:19 PM

Elk Grove and West Sac aren’t exactly next to each other… it would be like Livermore and Orinda I think (not demographically speaking, just distance)

41 Anonymous July 4, 2010 at 2:22 PM

I don’t care what exceptions are made for individual candidates based on “minor infractions” I care that we are hiring anyone in a position of administrative power that have RESIGNED, or been asked to RESIGN, or been FIRED or whatever. That is the first mistake. We should not be taking the bottom of the barrel. Hopefully Elk Grove will take Dr. Nugent back so he can prove himself there. Stay there Dr. Nugent. We don’t want you here. Our district has lowered the bar so much they’ll hire anyone! What the hell are they thinking? It’s not going to fly here. Psssssstttt… hey guys, especially those of you in Clayton, they think we’re stupid…. they really do . (and by “they” I mean the Superintendent and Personnel who are obviously too stupid to do a google search on candidates)

42 City Girl July 4, 2010 at 10:58 PM

I am extremely surprised that MDE parents are not screaming loudly and demanding answers. Check out this link and read ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM past the listing of positions needing to be filled. Most of you must be on vacation for the holiday weekend.

http://www.ibabuzz.com/onassignment/2010/06/27/mt-diablo-school-board-to-appoint-more-administrators-vote-on-sports-banners/

43 MDE Mom July 5, 2010 at 8:54 AM

As an MDE parent, I am waiting to hear more. I don’t see a point in screaming on a public blog anymore. MDE parents should, instead be writing to the Sup and the Board.
We asked for someone with leadership and above all, integrity. I understand people deserve second chances, but with the principal train we have had at MDE, we need someone who can come in without a shadow hanging over him/her from the beginning.

44 Anonymous July 5, 2010 at 11:38 AM

I just have to believe there is someting else to this appointment of Dr. Nugent, Surely our district could not have made such a blunder. If so, a few admins need to go. They all get paid big bucks and are suppose to be very well educated so that things llike this don’t happen.

45 Peg July 5, 2010 at 9:07 PM

Gary Eberhart has announced on the MDUSD parent blog that Dr. Nugent will NOT be a principal anywhere in the district. He has submitted his resignation.

46 Nugent Fan July 5, 2010 at 9:43 PM

I love Ted Nugent! Ha ha ha ha ha!!

47 Killjoy July 5, 2010 at 11:26 PM

Clayton Mom July 2, 2010 at 10:25 PM
“Where’s Killjoy when we need him/her. He/she said they were going to the meeting at MDE this week because they had a vested interest. How does killjoy feel now?”

I WAS there. And I’ll tell you how I feel.

Violated!
They listened to what we had to say, and it seems like they took those notes, and crumbled them up and threw them away.
