“LOVE, CONCORD” THE FIRST FEATURE FILM EVER TO BE SET IN THE CITY OF CONCORD

June 27, 2010 10:38 am · 76 comments

Love, Concord“, the first feature film ever to be set in the City of Concord, is currently in production, and being filmed throughout the city.

Love, Concord” is a movie about a high school class clown who keeps striking out with girls, but finally gets a chance with one, and has to decide whether he wants to pursue the relationship, or keep his reputation as a class clown.

The films creator, Gustavo Guardado, says one of the goals of his film is to show Latinos in a more positive light, instead of showing them in gangs, or committing crimes. He wants people to understand that Latinos have the same normal suburban conflicts that others have.

Also, Guardado says they plan to submit the films to the Tribeca & Sundance Film Festivals.

They’re currently in the third week of filming in Concord, and other parts of CLAYCORD.

To learn more about this movie, visit their facebook fanpage, which is updated often. You can visit the fanpage by clicking ON THIS LINK.

You just have to love the irony of the placement of this article -

Good Luck!

“The films creator, Gustavo Guardado, says one of the goals of his film is to show Latinos in a more positive light, instead of showing them in gangs, or committing crimes.”

Oops. See story BELOW ” Concord Man Arrested For Armed Robbery”.

Nice to know. I would never have known about this film had it not been for Claycord. Is the film’s producer from Concord? Wonder what made him choose Concord as a location for filming?

6 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 11:39 AM

Mayor, please shut down comments for this story. It’s only just begun and three out of four of the comments are tinged with racism.

7 JennyC. June 27, 2010 at 11:40 AM

I love Gus! He filmed my wedding and did a fantasic job. He is a young, creative artist with a bright future. I can’t wait to see “Love, Concord.” When will it be ready and where will it be showing? Mayor, Can you update us on this production? I am so happy to see this on Claycord and I appreciate you focusing on local talent. We need more of this. Thank you!

prediction first twenty minutes will rival “Saving Private Ryan.”

10 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 12:01 PM

What part of Concord is this being shot in? Monument???

11 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 12:22 PM

Right on, all power to you you in making this film.

12 Jessica June 27, 2010 at 12:27 PM

“movie about a high school class clown ”

Will any portion of the movie be filmed at one of the local high schools? Will there be any need for extras?

13 Richard June 27, 2010 at 12:31 PM

This is awesome! I lived in Concord for only a few years but my fianced lived there for 15! It’s a beautiful little town fill with some great people of all races, creeds & colors! What can we do to help?
Signed,
a Fat old bald white man!

Anon #6 nice try but the comments are what makes this site what it is love it or leave. This is the best advertisement he will ever receive.

15 Yolanda June 27, 2010 at 12:34 PM

Do you know if part of this movie was shot at Digger’s Diner? A week or so ago, I went to the 7-11 next door, and I noticed all the cameras and lights at Diggers. My husband and I thought that maybe they were filming a commercial for the restaurant, but now I wonder if it was for a scene in the movie.

16 Get Real June 27, 2010 at 12:41 PM

Mayor,

I agree, comments need to be turned off here. It is turning out to be like a bad rash for unwanted comments, notice I did not pull the word racist here! Wow, ten comments and I am offended. I’m not even Latino……………….. very very sad.

17 Jtkatec June 27, 2010 at 12:46 PM

Good luck, Gustavo. I applaud you for your endeavor.

18 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 12:47 PM

I’m always glad to see something positive about Concord. I hope it all works out for Gustavo and his film. When the Mayor posts a feel-good story, can’t you nay-sayers just stay away?

19 M. Fernandez June 27, 2010 at 12:52 PM

Cool, I heard about this last week.
My nephew was talking about being an extra in a scene.
I’m with #6. Be positive people.
And wasn’t there a feature film in the 50′s filmed here? or was that just a couple scenes.

20 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 1:09 PM

I think it’s great that he is trying to show Latinos in a positive light! I can’t wait to see the final product!

21 Fred Murphy June 27, 2010 at 1:43 PM

Gustavo, I am a friend of your Mother, and she has been telling me about your film.Good Luck

22 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 1:50 PM

Mayor, Can you use your authority and delete the racist comments? I understand and believe in Freedom of Speech . . . but can we limit that HERE to only those speaking truth and love, not hate and racism?

23 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 1:58 PM

First feature film to be set in Concord? I think you are forgetting about Harvey Berman’s masterpiece “The Wild Ride”. Set in and around Concord and starring a very young Jack Nicholson.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054475/

24 anon June 27, 2010 at 2:02 PM

I too chuckled

But give this young man a break, at least he’s doing something positive. Instead of sitting and bitching. Maybe it will help. Concord used to be a great place to grow up in, it still could be. Maybe we should be supportive of some of the positive stuff.

25 Anon June 27, 2010 at 2:15 PM

He gave de niro a small bit part at the end and he’s pissed! He’s talking about shutting the thing down and walking off. When Redford heard, he was like, “Yah, I’ll only take a 5 box and no residge! I’m in”

26 Mr. Mayor June 27, 2010 at 2:19 PM

The Wild Ride wasn’t set in Concord, in was filmed in Concord and many other parts of Contra Costa County, but its focus wasn’t on Concord.

27 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 2:41 PM

OMG, You chickens are so sensitive that you’re trying to get the Mayor to moderate and delete postings that aren’t Even posted yet. I think you need to worry about your phobia of racism rather than racism itself. This is not TV where everything is controlled, this is a blog where people’s opinions are stated.

Kudos and success on the film, there’s some good independent films out there. ‘Gasland’ comes to mind.

PS – those asking questions about if there was a scene at Diggers Diner, go to the facebook page – it has all the photos.

28 Well...... June 27, 2010 at 2:52 PM

#27

With all the other racist crap here it is very sad that people have to react that way.

29 Steve (Esteban) June 27, 2010 at 2:54 PM

Mr. Mayor, can you shut off all the racist comments about the perceived racist comments or maybe they should just go away and read another blog?

30 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 3:05 PM

racism ≠ opinion, racism = hatred, and hatred shouldn’t be tolerated in any form. (unless of the government) :D

31 Yolanda June 27, 2010 at 3:30 PM

#27, thank you. I didn’t notice the link to the Facebook page previously. The crew my husband and I saw must have been for this movie.

32 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 3:32 PM

Jessica
Excellent question, Thank You for asking it.

33 thighs of glory June 27, 2010 at 3:34 PM

Suppress intolerance before it even begins!

Oh, and cool movie, bro. I hope you have no problems finding a distributor.

34 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 3:57 PM

Interesting to see all these complaints about racism. I posted a comment that showed truth and my love for America about 5 hours ago, it was censored. Leads me to believe that Loving the United States of America is some how considered raciest here.

35 Unbothered June 27, 2010 at 4:05 PM

There are racists, child molestors and other irritating people in the grocery store, but that does not stop me from shopping there. Anyways, with today’s modern scroll wheels racist comments can just fly through the top of your computer. Just flick your digit and away bad words go.
Long live the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

36 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 4:21 PM

“Suppress intolerance before it even begins!”

Cute statement. However, Who defines what Intolerance is, Do you? Does the Government? The problem with making laws regarding Thoughts is that the laws are way too broad.

Good luck with the movie!

37 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 4:28 PM

#34 You got it!
The Mayor is censuring comments

38 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 4:35 PM

Gus is from Concord and graduated from Concord High School in 1997.
May the Force be with you Gus.

39 M. Fernandez June 27, 2010 at 4:45 PM

#34,37 It’s his blog, he can censor any comments he feels appropriate.
I’ve been censored a couple times, it’s no big deal.
Start your own blog!

Can’t wait to see the movie! So I can say HEY that’s my nephew in the background! :D

40 Leigh June 27, 2010 at 5:08 PM

Damn, you guys are sad.

In the previous story you are slamming Latinos as being a bunch of illegal criminals and the whole lot of them should be extradited.

Here’s this kid, Latino kid, trying to something good, and you’re slamming him too.

Some of you make me ashamed of my fellow white people.

41 Radar June 27, 2010 at 5:14 PM

Any info about where they are filming next week? I want to go the set to take pics.

48 Martinez June 27, 2010 at 6:22 PM

Thanks mayor for bringing to light this nice effort by a local citizen to share his artistic talents while at the same time he is showing honor and respect for his hometown.

We will make a point to try to support his effort when it becomes available for viewing…..as I am sure will be the case with all of your loyal readers.

Suppress intolerance before it even begins!

Now, really. You want to go there?

My comment was the first one. I merely stated it was ironic that the post about the movie was preceded by the post showing a Latino in the most negative light. And that’s somehow “racist?” Is it, or is it not, the truth?

Wow, talk about going down the path of thought control.

52 Miss Diagnosis June 27, 2010 at 8:35 PM

This sounds like a terrible movie.

53 sidekick mom June 27, 2010 at 8:52 PM

Sadly enough it is never an issue when there are racist comments about white folks here.
And as long as we are talking about legal citizens I am all for this movie. However, if it is to promote illegal immigrants no thank you. Love all people. And believe that we must protect our citizens that are here legally
at a time when there are not enough jobs. So call me a racist if you like but it is time to do something about preserving our way of life.

54 Latina with a Masters degree June 27, 2010 at 9:18 PM

Who said it was to promote illegal immigrants? It clearly has nothing to do with legal/illegal politics–it is about showing “Latinos in a more positive light, instead of showing them in gangs, or committing crimes.” I’m pretty sure that’s what the description said, didn’t it? Not all Latinos are illegal, in fact, my family has been here longer than many ‘white’ people. I’m just as American as the blondie next door. That said, this movie isn’t about immigration–so let’s just try to stay on topic.

I think it is great that someone is trying to show Latinos in a more positive light. The more of us that do what we can to defy our stereotypes, the better. There are many of us out there who are educated, well-read, good parents, and live in nice neighborhoods. Good for you, Gus!

55 sidekick mom June 27, 2010 at 9:45 PM

My comment has nothing to do with education levels, parenting etc. It simply says that IF the movie is about illegals then I am not for it.

56 Anon June 27, 2010 at 10:08 PM

Hopefully he has pride in his high school. They seem to be making fun of the minutemen mural in one of the pics on the facebook page. I hope they are not making fun of the murals race and just making fun of the creed.

57 Latina with a Masters degree June 27, 2010 at 10:22 PM

Yes, but the fact that you made that immediate jump says so much. Latino issues aren’t just about immigration, folks. I’ve never even been to Mexico–my point is that it is annoying that whenever a story that has anything to do with Latinos comes up, there are always a few posters who jump on the Immigration bandwagon. As a second generation latina, there are many other issues that affect me, immigration *not* being one of them.

58 Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

#56 ’cause everythin is a giant conspiracy against the “man”??!!
sometimes a picture is just a picture

59 Get Real June 28, 2010 at 12:05 AM

Let’s not get carried away. it is just a guy that is filming a movie to tell a story. Do not read into it too much, that is called paranoia.

Sidekick mom, I understood what you meant. I do not think that it is promoting illegal immigrants, it is a story that happens to have Latin American’s in the lead role. Looks worth sitting through, so proud, a hometown hero!

60 Radar June 28, 2010 at 12:11 AM

BTW, KPIX picked up the story from Claycord and taped some video while doing their shoot today and showed it on the 10PM and 11PM shows. They even mentioned Claycord in the story.

This is great Good luck Gus. Nice positive venthure for our town.

63 Gus Guardado June 28, 2010 at 9:39 AM

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Whether the comments are good or “bad” it’s nice to see the film is getting it’s home town’s attention. I’ll let the film speak for itself when it’s finished. Until then, again thank you for your support and curiosity.

64 Anonymous June 28, 2010 at 11:42 AM

So, this is a PR film. Great.

65 Supporter June 28, 2010 at 12:57 PM

Gus, congratulations on your decision to film this movie. Thank you for choosing to show the positive in people. Do not allow negative comments to lose sight of your dream. Good luck to you.

66 Radar June 28, 2010 at 1:19 PM

Adrian, I went to the CBS5 website but couldn’t find the video. I know they showed it on the 11PM show and it looked great. I hope to get the location of the shoot for this week and take pics for Claycord. Maybe some audio of some interviews too.

67 Anonymous June 28, 2010 at 3:53 PM

Too funny, I was also going to comment about this article being right above the Concord Man Arrested For Robbery, but I see 4 dozen people beat me to it.

68 jeninreality June 28, 2010 at 4:57 PM

Hey: Anonymous June 27, 2010 at 11:39 AM
Mayor, please shut down comments for this story. It’s only just begun and three out of four of the comments are tinged with racism.

STOP with the automatic “racism” slander. It’s called “irony” and it’s really funny because that was the first thing I thought as well. Why not just call the Mayor of Claycord a racist because he posts articles about alleged criminals who happen to be hispanic, or the police for doing a traffic stop on Monument and they happen to be hispanic? Jeez, where does it end?

69 Anonymous June 28, 2010 at 6:04 PM

Your welcome Ann, it’s my hope I can go on location in the next couple of days and get photos for Claycord. I’m hoping the premier is in Concord too.
